Bellerive Bluff 29/10/2006

Went to the bluff for an hour first thing in the morning. No action, so went home. It had been unseasonably cold, with snow the day before, so Iw asnt surprised that there was no action.

After the fires

The winds were still strong, but the temp had dropped from 30+ to 16. I went for an early morning fish at Bellerive Bluff. Got 4 small cocky salmon -- two on a silver Tassie Devil, one on a 65mm silver minnow soft plastic, and one on a fluro green Tassie Devil. The last fish threw up 3 minnows as I was realling it in -- they were about 75mm silver fish.

Got home at 10 in time for breakfast. It was at that time that I realised my hard disk had crashed. Going to the PC shop to get a new HD, I caught a car panel in the parking lot and almost pulled it off. Not a good day!!!!!!!

First Attempt at Cremorne

The cremorne canal is supposed to be good for Australian Salmon. So I thought I would give it a try. I snuck away while everyone was asleep, the plan being to fish and be back by 9:00 am.

Got to the canal at 6:00 am. The tide was high, but going out. It must have been just after the turn of the tide. You could see the shallows where there was about a foot of water, before the drop off into the canal. Another fisherman arrived - -it was his second time at the canal. He was also planning to use soft plastics. Following his advice, I took off my shoes and socks and waded out along the sand flats, in about 6 inches of water. Suddenly a wave came in -- just a normal wave. But the water kept rising and rising. All of a sudden I was in almost 3 feet of water. It must have been a tidal surge. My guess is that the current flowing out of the lagoon had pushed back the sea water, until it suddenly rushed back in.

Anyway, wet and dispirited (and fishless), I drove back to bellerive Bluff. I managed two small salmon on tassie devils. I tried soft plastics and had a hit, but failed to hook up.
